Five Years, Five Shades: Inside Walk In Pink 5.0

Walk In Pink 5.0 is a milestone. Five consecutive years. A fifth community about to be reached. Over 2,200 women screened across four editions, from a first-time walk in Teshie in 2022 to more than 1,000 screenings in a single day at Nungua in 2025. On 24 October 2026, at DTI Campus in Accra, the fifth edition sets a target that would have seemed impossible when the movement began. 1,500 walkers. 1,500 free screenings. One day.
To mark the milestone, Walk In Pink 5.0 introduces something new. The Five Shades are five shirt colours, each representing a different place in the breast-cancer journey, and every participant chooses their shade, and their story. White is for the Hopeful, those walking for the first time, those coming in solidarity, those who believe prevention is possible. Baby Pink is for the Future, the students and young people who carry the next generation of this movement forward.
Burgundy is for the Remembered. Participants wearing Burgundy walk in honour of someone lost, a name they carry with them and a face they hold in memory. At the heart of the day, biodegradable balloons bearing those names will be released together in a national act of remembrance. It is the most visible and intimate moment Walk In Pink has ever attempted.
Hot Pink is for the Warriors, the survivors. The women who faced breast cancer, who underwent treatment, who came out the other side and chose to show up again, in pink, in public, in power. Their presence at every Walk In Pink edition has moved crowds to silence and to tears. In 5.0, they have their own shade. Purple is for the Guardians, the nurses, doctors, health workers, caregivers, researchers, and allies who make the work possible.
The Five Shades are more than a colour scheme. They are a recognition that everyone who comes to Walk In Pink arrives from a different place and carries a different story. The shirt you choose says something about why you came. The movement has always been about belonging, and 5.0 makes that belonging visible.
Beyond the walk itself, the Pink Wave campaign builds the community for five weeks in the lead-up to October 24. The Sponsor-A-Mammogram drive continues, turning every shirt purchase into a funded screening for a woman who cannot afford one. The memorial balloon release, the aerobics and dance competition between the five shades, the Survivor Story session, and the self-examination demonstration all come together into the fullest day Walk In Pink has ever planned.
Five years. Five shades. One fight. If you are in Accra on 24 October 2026, join us at DTI Campus. If you are not, find a way to be part of it. Register online, sponsor a mammogram, or share the campaign. This is the biggest Walk In Pink yet, and it belongs to everyone who has ever cared about a woman's life.
